Summer Camp for our children!

2012 Summer Camp

From July onwards, for over one month and a half, Israeli children will stop going to school and will start their summer vacation. This marks the beginning of a dangerous period for the children in the care of the Jaffa Institute.

Indeed, as the school year ends, most Israeli children look forward to a long break filled with fun, games and relaxation. However, many of the parents of the children in our care cannot afford to pay for summer camps and need to keep working long hours.

As a result, in July and August, the children in our care find themselves unattended for most of the day. With Jaffa’s crime and drug abuse rates almost twice the national average, children on the streets are often placed in at-risk situations related to drugs, violence, and other forms of crime.

In addition to the dangers presented by this situation, these children will not enjoy the benefits provided by an experience at a summer camp. Indeed, such programs are known to give children the opportunity to develop leadership skills in a low pressure atmosphere as well as provide them with responsibilities that they may not otherwise be exposed to in a different environment. In addition to developing their leadership and social skills, an experience at a summer camp helps children gain self-esteem.

The Jaffa Institute believes that such benefits should be offered to all children, no matter how wealthy their parents are. Therefore, we organize an Annual Summer Camp that over 150 at-risk children attend. The summer camp takes place in our four after-school activity centers in the Greater Jaffa area.

The Annual Summer Camp aims to provide disadvantaged children with a safe and enriching alternative to being left at home unsupervised or exposed to the dangers of the streets. In addition, this program provides a “hook” to disadvantaged children to engage them in positive activities which can enhance their social, academic and personal growth.

Finally, our summer camp program is unique as our Therapeutic Center remains open in the summer in order to allow the children who receive social and educational support services during the school year to continue their therapy program without a break.

After the matzos the kindness continues onwards!

This past Passover, (don’t you passover), the Jaffa Institute hosted a Pesach Seder for 500 impoverished Ethiopian immigrants in the Bet Shemesh Educational Center’s beautiful new dining hall. For many of these families, this was the first Seder of their lives; an experience never to be forgotten.

Bar Mitzvah Ceremony
Becoming Bar Mitzvah is often the most significant event in a teenage boy’s life. It marks the important boundary between childhood and adulthood and is generally a time for great joy as well as reflection. Sadly, many of the students at the Bet Shemesh Educational Center simply cannot afford to celebrate this special occasion because of their families’ financial hardship. This year, the Bet Shemesh Educational Center seeks to fulfill the dreams of its Bar Mitzvah boys. After completing an educational course about the significance of becoming Bar Mitzvah, each of the boys will be given a set of teffilin, and a tallit, as well as a small gift in honor of the momentous event. They will also have the opportunity to celebrate their special day with their families and friends, when they are all treated to a luxuriously catered meal and taken on an exciting field trip. For more info click here<-.This meaningful day of growth and celebration will be unforgettable for our students! If you would like to help a Bar Mitzvah boy receive a trulyspecial Bar Mitzvah celebration, please click here (and mention eli in comments) or contact Eli umuse613@gmail.com orphone 0573175856/ 00972573175856

Jews in Egypt were not only enslaved physically but also spiritually. At that time, they were at their lowest spiritual level. Their physical liberation from Egypt also freed them from their spiritual limitations. As a result, the Jewish people were able to attain great spiritual heights through the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai.

Inspiration on April 15th, after Pesach/Passover dishes away, we are on the way to count our precious time of life with 41 days to go…

” By virtue of the Omer that I counted today…may I be purified and sanctified with the sanctity from above, and may this cause an influence of great abundance in all the worlds.”(Seder Sfirat HaOmer, terminating prayer). Thanks to Lazer Brody for the inspirations…At the conclusion of each night’s counting of the Omer, we ask Hashem that we be purified and sanctified. We also say that our purification and sanctification triggers an influence of tremendous abundance in all the worlds – both material and spiritual. For more Click here<=

Tribute to the real Midnight Tzaddick/Rabbi Rav Avrohom Yeshaya German zt”l

Terrible news again, Baruch Dayan HaEmes: We are sad to inform you of the passing of Rav Avner German zt”l (father of Rav Yeshaya German zt”l). The Levaya took place this afternoon in Jerusalem 30 days after the passing of his son. Siyumim/Dedications upon the shloshim/30 days of Rav German zt”l will be held tonight (Monday) in yeshiva, together with the German family. The seudah has been moved to 7pm. It was very strange news on the 30th day and I ended up finding out on the road from Bet Shemesh on the way to Kesher for the special Seudah today and ended up going to the Levaya instead!

The role model for the Midnight Rabbi and all the world, someone who truly cared and the only thing he was most strict in was loving others. Here’s a quick story of my Rebbe in Ohr Somayach of a man who truly is beyond words. He told us about not watching movies “who  needs to watch movies when your fight with the evil inclination is the best movie there is” !!! He lived and breathed Torah true lifestyle and may his holy family (<-click to hear his holy

son hesped his holy father zt’l) find comfort and all of us as mourners of Tzion , amen!

Who can forget the holy time spent with Rav Germnan zt’l Purim every year opening his heart and home with Emunah pouring more than the Lchaims!!! Please listen to great hespeds from great Rabbonim close to him click here<-! Here is a link to a collection of letters and memories of Rav German zt”l.

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Avrohom Yeshaya German zt”lon Shabbos in Eretz Yisroel. A noted talmid chochom and yorei Shomayim, Rav Avrohom Yeshaya was taken at the prime of his life, leaving his family, friends, talmidim and admirers in mourning.

Rav Avrohom Yeshaya was a son of Rav Avner German, renowned menahel of Be’er Hagolahhttp://matzav.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gifInstitutes, which was founded in 1979 at the behest of gedolim as a kiruv initiative to draw close our brethren who hailed from the former Soviet Union. Rav Avrohom Yeshaya’s mother, Rebbetzin Laya German a”h, passed away several years ago.

Rav Avrohom Yeshaya was a talmid of the yeshiva of Rav Dovid Soloveitchik and also learned at Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood. He devoted considerable time to Yeshivas Gevuras Yitzchok-Kesher, an innovative makom Torah in Yerushalayim designed to deal with the unique issues of young people who have lost direction in life and are looking for a meaningful way back. Rav Avrohom Yeshaya’s yedios haTorah and remarkably warm and caring personality came together in a stunning way to touch so many hearts and souls. He was a giant in Torah and a giant in middos, with his humility hiding much of the gadlus he attained.

Rav German is survived by his wife, Mrs. Tziporah German (sitting at 13 Maharal Ziskind in Beit Shemesh and can be reached at 011-972-2-991-0315), and his children; his father, Rav Avner German; and his siblings, Rabbi Mordechai German (starting Friday morn will be sitting at 120 Westervelt Place in Passaic), Mrs. Rochel Shlomowitz (sitting at 13 Maharal Ziskind in Beit Shemesh and can be reached at 011-972-2-991-0315), Mrs. Nechama Pohrille (starting Friday morning will be sitting at 1434 45th Street in Boro Park), Mrs. Bruria Rotkin (starting Friday morning will be sitting at 401 7th Street in Lakewood), Mrs. Shifra Brog and Mrs. Yocheved Shulman.

Rabbi Avner German will be sitting shivah at 1500 Hornell Loop, Apt. 4B, in Starrett City, Brooklyn. Shacharis is at 8:40 a.m. Minchah is at 4:15 p.m., and Maariv is at 8 p.m. The phone number is 718.642.8470.

Mama Rochel

Today is the 11th day of Cheshvan, the yahrtzeit of our matriarch Rachel whom we affectionately call, Mama Rochel.

Here’s my dear friend Yaacov Shwekey singing “Mama Rochel”, a moving song written by Abie Rottenberg. May her sacred memory guard over us.

We Stand With Israel

We were at the Kotel when we heard an amazing roar coming from the parking lot. It sounded like 60 bellowing lions bragging about the great lunch that they just had devoured. Someone said that it was music being played from a loud speaker. The noise was musical, but it sounded more like motorcycles to me. But it was way louder than any motorcycles that I had ever heard.

It turned out that more than 70 Harley Davidson Motorcycle riders were revving up their bikes in the Kotel parking lot. It sounded like a strange melodic symphony. The riders were Americans, x-ians, Harley bike riders who came to show support for Israel. They had their huge bikes shipped here for a 10-day tour of Israel. They also brought $600,000 in medical supplies to give to hospitals in Israel. These guys were hard-core bikers with huge tattoos saying such things as “yashka Forever.” You could see their histories dug into the lines on their faces, red-necks, Hell’s Angels, heavy drugs, and now, Born Again x-ians.

As they came into the Kotel area, I joked with a few of them. They were from Texas so I used my South Texas accent, “Yoo drive a Hog, man?” They cracked up. “Hog” is biker slang for a Harley motorcycle.

I spoke to a group of them. I pointed my finger at them and loudly said, “I gat somethin’ ta say ta yoo.” They all looked at me, not knowing what to expect. I said, “I wanna thank yoo! Thank yoo for coming.” They loved it.

Then I said, “If we (Jews in Israel) weren’t here, then they (the arabs and their rockets) would be in Texas!”

They answered loudly, “That’s right!”

Maybe a lot of religious Jews would say not to talk to them (since we know that their bottom hope is to try to convert a Jew to their myth, G-d forbid), or that we should yell out the truth at them about their idolatry as they go by, but I learned a long time ago that you can easily change the direction a strong steam with a little well-placed guidance, but if you try to stop it, it will violently overflow.

I spoke to a couple of them about G-d being everywhere, and that yashkais not everywhere, so they should not worship him. Someone handed out some “Seven Commandment” cards. They took a bunch of pictures and went away happy, feeling that their trip was worthwhile.

Remember, the more supporters we have in America, the greater chances of a friendly President being elected.

WAR ? from Lazer Beams

Back in Rosh Hashana eve of 1973, Moshe Dayan and Golda Meir reassured a complacent Israeli public still drunk from the miraculous 1967 Six-Day War victory, “We’ve never been stronger! The Arabs wouldn’t dream of attacking.” On Yom Kippur of 1973, Syria and Egypt launched a two-prong surprise attack that brought Israel to its knees. Moshe Dayan was the first one to have a panic attack. Hashem saved us by a bigger miracle than 1967. Those of us who fought in that war can testify first hand.

Exactly 38 years later, we are in the same exact position. Only this time, the Arab noose is umpteen times more dangerous. Iran will have an A-bomb any day now. Al Qaida has taken over Sinai and our once quiet border with Egypt is now a powder keg.  Turkey, our newest (old) enemy, i moving ships into our side of the Mediterranean. Hamas in Gaza has dangerous new Iranian and Libyan weapons, including bunker busters. Syria and Hizbulla have the nastiest chemical warheads, something beyond Satan’s imagination.

One honest IDF commander -  Home Front Command chief Maj. Gen. Eyal Eisenberg – said we must prepare for imminent war. Defense Minister Barak and company say that Eisenberg is exaggerating. Minister Yaalon is now joining the bandwagon of complacency too, saying, “No war in sight.”

But, don’t be afraid. Hashem does love us and wants to be with us. But, we must be worthy of the Divine Presence. Rav Shalom told me that every single Jew must begin doing serious teshuva and self-assessment while begging Hashem to delay this harsh decree. I asked Rav Shalom, “Why pray for a delay? Why not pray for a total cancellation?” Rav Shalom said the delay is to allow more people to make teshuva. A cancellation is almost impossible, because it’s part of Hashem’s plan to bring Moshiach, in the nearest future. Once Moshiach comes, teshuva will be worthless. Today, teshuva is still worth it’s weight in diamonds. But time is running out super-fast.

So come home to the safest country in the world with http://midnightabbi1eligoldsmith.wordpress.com/2011/08/23/to-tour-israel-the-best-way-personal-and-unique/

Time to wake up- Our cousins are calling as we bring True Unity!

This is my prefered approach to the new year and to keep positive etc-charitynewyear/… Please watch and read below!

These 7 blessings signify the unity of Bride and Groom us-Yisrael with Hashem! May this come soon!

But its important to hear whats going on. Thanks to Lazer Bordey for some real scarey news!

Rabbi  Arush  gave his weekly address to the Yeshiva yesterday, and said as follows:

-  He  has been informed by one of the Zadikim Nistarim (hidden zadik) [who he  has  known for many years], that the ‘Gates of Tshuva’ are closing soon [ie,  there will be no more Tshuva – repentance/returning to Hashem - after that date].The Rav shlit’a said that Moshiach will be here soon; once Moshiach arrives, the gates of teshuva will be closed, so now is the time to make teshuva. The Rav did not say that the gates of teshuva will be closed on September 21 or on any other specific date.

-  There is a terrible decree in Shamayim [heaven] that [chas ve'shalom] on 21st  Ellul  [20th  September  2011]  six Arab nations plan to send up to 3 million Arabs to march on Jerusalem, un-armed.

- [This might not sound particularly terrible, seeing as they are un-armed. However,  Rav  Arush  stressed  that we do not understand how terrible this decree will be and that we must all pray for it to be rescinded.]

-  Rav Arush is taking the message from the Zadik Nistar very seriously, despite the fact the many other of our religious leaders are not taking this seriously. He told  the Yeshiva that he personally called up non-religious family members and  asked them to please start keeping Shabbat, and to put on Tefillin and keep  any  other  mitzvahs they can. Now may be the last time that a person will be able to do Tshuva and return to Hashem. No one knows when time will run out, so teshuva can be delayed no longer.

-  Rav Arush then made immediate changes to the Yeshiva. He has changed the normal  learning  schedule  so that instead of learning from 1pm – 5pm, all students  at  the  Yeshiva  are  to go out at this time to distribute Torah literature,  CD’s  and books…

For months now, we’ve been calling on everyone to strengthen ourselves in emuna and teshuva. Hashem’s global wakeup calls have included missile barrages, tragic murders, earthquakes, floods, and a killer hurricane. Now, Egypt is about to be taken over by radical Islamis, the Sinai border is hostile, Turkey is aligning with Iran and Hamas and Iran against Israel, and Syria and Hizbulla are itching to use chemical warheads against us. What more do we need to make teshuva? No one seems to get the message. But, those few families who strengthen themselves in true emuna and teshuva will see miracles and salvation, speedily, amen!

In the night with the Arabs calling we make 7 blessing of Unity between Husband and Wife in the holy city of Jerusalem.http://midnightabbi1eligoldsmith.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/help-for-the-new-year-ethiopian-barmitzvot-now/ Make a difference and do charity now!
