With thanks from Eli Goldsmith to honour the festival of Passover and Pesach 2012/5772 thanks for the great causes This coming Passover, (don’t you passover), the Jaffa Institute is hosting a Pesach Seder for 500 impoverished Ethiopian immigrants in the Bet Shemesh Educational Center’s beautiful new dining hall. Jerusalem – rabbi-hagaon-chaim-pinchas-scheinberg-passes-away-at-101-tzlb, the Rosh Yeshiva of Mattersdorf prominent Yeshiva Torah Ore, one of Kiryat Mattersdorf’s most highly regarded Rabbonim, and a member of Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah, who was renowned for wearing dozens of pairs of tzitzis passed away this afternoon Sha’arei Tzedek hospital, at the age of one hundred and one.

On January 9th 2012, the Jaffa Institute will be hosting its Annual Gala Dinner. This year the Institute will celebrate30 years of service to the thousands of impoverished children and families living in Tel Aviv – Jaffa. Taking place at the prestigious Avenue Convention Center in Airport City over 800 people are expected to attend.

Parshas Ki Savoi 5771Rosh Hashanah; The Pleasure of Self Nullification
On Rosh Hashanah, Hashem is reestablished as King. The entire theme of the day is to subjugate oneself to His great and awe-inspiring kingdom.
The first paragraph of ‘Malchius’, the section from the prayer of Musaf on Rosh Hashana where we express the absolute sovereignty of Hashem, is “Aleinu Leshabeyach”, a prayer expressing our subjugation to Him. Its main theme is “Va’anachnu Korim Umeshtachavim Umodim”, ‘We prostate ourselves and bow and thank’.
Nullifying oneself in the face of the grandness of Hashem is the most pleasurable activity a human can engage in. It is only merited through effort and divine assistance.
The Imrei Pinchas advises that during the last Shalosh Seudah of the year, one should beg Hashem to merit being humble on Rosh Hashanah. A generation like ours had better get a head start and begin preparing early for the great divine service of nullifying ourselves to Hashem.
To acquire the trait of humbleness, one must work on not being petty, relinquishing jealousy, and forgoing our rights in order to prevent hostility. The correct attitude is – ‘everything I have is more than I deserve’.
A great bonus of such an attitude is that Hashem forgives the sins of anybody who forgoes his entitlements in order to avoid bitter feelings between Jews.

Really good to see you all at the most incredible wedding and thoroughly enjoyable week!
You may have noticed the rockin’ rabbi at the wedding – for those of you who didn’t get to chat to him, this is our friend Eliezer formerly known as Elliot Goldsmith aka the Midnight Rabbi formerly the X-box rabbi also goes by ‘lead guitarist of the Red Hot Kosher Peppers’ and occasionally Sir Schvitz Alot…..
Anyway, our friend Eli works at The Jaffa Institute – which is an amazing organisation providing housing, food and education for thousands of underprivileged Israeli children from Jaffa, South Tel Aviv and Bat Yam.
As we were all lucky enough to enjoy an amazing simcha in Israel – it seems only right that we give something back….
One of the programmes in need of help this year funds the Bar Mitzvah’s of 28 of the Jewish Ethiopian Immigrant kids from their Beth Shemesh Educational and Residential Center.
A Bar Mitzvah costs $944 per child and includes the ceremony, a new pair of Teffilin, a breakfast for the kids and their families and an educational field trip.
It would be amazing if you could help these kids who come from absolutely nothing and give them a really special day!

Back in Rosh Hashana eve of 1973, Moshe Dayan and Golda Meir reassured a complacent Israeli public still drunk from the miraculous 1967 Six-Day War victory, “We’ve never been stronger! The Arabs wouldn’t dream of attacking.” On Yom Kippur of 1973, Syria and Egypt launched a two-prong surprise attack that brought Israel to its knees. Moshe Dayan was the first one to have a panic attack. Hashem saved us by a bigger miracle than 1967. Those of us who fought in that war can testify first hand.
Exactly 38 years later, we are in the same exact position. Only this time, the Arab noose is umpteen times more dangerous. Iran will have an A-bomb any day now. Al Qaida has taken over Sinai and our once quiet border with Egypt is now a powder keg. Turkey, our newest (old) enemy, i moving ships into our side of the Mediterranean. Hamas in Gaza has dangerous new Iranian and Libyan weapons, including bunker busters. Syria and Hizbulla have the nastiest chemical warheads, something beyond Satan’s imagination.
One honest IDF commander - Home Front Command chief Maj. Gen. Eyal Eisenberg – said we must prepare for imminent war. Defense Minister Barak and company say that Eisenberg is exaggerating. Minister Yaalon is now joining the bandwagon of complacency too, saying, “No war in sight.”
But, don’t be afraid. Hashem does love us and wants to be with us. But, we must be worthy of the Divine Presence. Rav Shalom told me that every single Jew must begin doing serious teshuva and self-assessment while begging Hashem to delay this harsh decree. I asked Rav Shalom, “Why pray for a delay? Why not pray for a total cancellation?” Rav Shalom said the delay is to allow more people to make teshuva. A cancellation is almost impossible, because it’s part of Hashem’s plan to bring Moshiach, in the nearest future. Once Moshiach comes, teshuva will be worthless. Today, teshuva is still worth it’s weight in diamonds. But time is running out super-fast.
