Info coming soon on ! Tennis 2012 for charity!

We’re very excited that you are coming along to the JIGE charity tennis tournament on Sunday April 22nd at the David Lloyd in Finchley.  And for those of you who attended our previous event in Bushey – so glad you decided to come along again.  We have got an excellent turn-out in Finchley so it looks set to be great fun.

We’ve attached a Welcome pack 2012 that explains what is going to happen on the day.  If you can’t open it or need more information then just let one of us know.

Dressing room lockers, for security, require padlocks so please bring one.  Refreshments are provided for all players.  If you want to bring a guest to cheer you on – then please let one of us know as we need numbers for catering. Donations for guests are £10 which gives them access to the refreshments and the reserved space in the café.

If you have any questions then it’s probably easiest to phone David Martle on 01923 261496 or 07785 791589 (you can also email him ondavmarmartle@btinternet.com but he’d prefer phone if you can)

Or contact Martin Goldsmith on 07831 863874 or martin@eventmerch.com

Or contact Michael Gilbert on 07802 961324 or M.Gilbert@focus-south.net

You can also contact me – Susan (David’s daughter) by email and I’ll try to help if I can but I am really only admin support!  I’ll see you on the day though as I’m running the scoreboard.

One final thing: Please do turn up by 2pm latest.  It becomes very complicated to get all the rounds going if someone is late!

All the best,

Susan Martle

On behalf of Martin, David and Michael

JI/GE Mens Doubles Tennis Tournament 22nd April 2012

System of play
• Each of the courts will have a set of 4 new balls at the start of the
tournament. Please leave the balls on the court for the next players on
that court to use (don’t take balls with you)
• Before each round starts – spin a racquet to decide on choice of first
serve and ends. Winner of the racquet spin gets to choose whether to
serve first or not. Loser of the racquet spin gets to choose the end to
start play on.
• Each round will start when a whistle is blown and end when the whistle
is blown again 30 minutes later
• End changing will happen after the first game and every second game
thereafter
• Instant deuce at 40 all. One point only. The recipients of the serve
choose which one of them should receive the serve.
• When the end whistle sounds play stops immediately (the ball ceases
to be in play).
• Only fully completed games up to the end whistle count toward the
score
• Players then need to complete their individual score cards and all 4
players together need to complete the court result form
• Players then move on to their next round (see moving sheet for how to
move courts and change partners)
How to keep score
• There are court results forms on each of the courts, these need to be
filled in at the end of each round
• They will be collected at the end of every round. The next round will not
start until all results forms have been collected in.
• Each player also has an individual score sheet to keep a personal
record of their own scores for 4 rounds. It is hoped that these individual
score sheets agree with the co-ordinator’s calculations of the results.Moving courts
• At the end of each round ….
• The Losers stay on the same court and split
• The Winners move up to the next court and split (If the round
has been a draw – then spin a racquet and the winners of the
racket spin move to the next court) See ‘Moving chart’ below
for which court Winners should move to
Changing Partners
• To form partners for the next round, one winner joins with one
loser and the other winner joins with the other loser
• Partners join up alphabetically – so partnership one is the
winner + loser combination with surnames nearest to the letter
A in the alphabet (and partnership two is the remaining winner +
loser)
• So if Brown and Smith (Winners from previous round) move to a
court where Losers Jones and Williams are waiting
– Brown partners with Jones (closest to A winner + closest to A loser)
– And Smith partners with Williams etc… see the pdf link for more!
