So happy to get ready for Shavous 2014 with Yeshivat Ashreinu this year in top form 🙂
We work six days, and the seventh day, Shabbat, is consecrated to G‑d, a day to spiritually refresh and reconnect with our Creator.
In a similar vein, every seventh year is holy; the Shemitah (Sabbatical) year is a year devoted to strengthening our bond with G‑d, and specifically to honing our faith in His omnipotence and our trust in His kindness.
This year, the year 5768 since creation (Sept. 13, 2007-Sept. 29, 2008), is aShemitah year. The articles in the following sections will explain this year’s special observances and laws, as well as expand on its spiritual message and practical relevance in the 21st century.
Wishing you an inspiring, uplifting and meaningful Shemitah year!

#Getting with the #struggle to the #Root of the #Matter !
Although we should constantly be seeking to grow spiritually, there are three times of the year set aside for focus on self-improvement; the period of Elul and Rosh Hashana, Shovevim and the six weeks of #Sefirah. These are not redundant; Elul is a time for resolving to cease sinning and Shovevim is directed at cleansing oneself from the spiritual effect of sin.
During Sefirah go deeper; we look for the reason why we sin and attempt to uproot it. Why did we speak ill of others? Why couldn’t we control ourselves and ate that with a questionable kashrus status? Why did we snap at our loved ones and violate the sin of hurting a Jew’s feeling?
Because of flaws in our Middos, character. During Sefirah we take a good, honest look at the darker side of ourselves and fearlessly embark on improving the parts of ourselves we would rather ignore.
